Mz Diagnosis

I think I’ve been misdiagnosed. The doctor picked Complex Regional Pain Syndrome because what was originally a sprain was still hurting almost two months later and he couldn’t explain it.

I could not accept that this was something that can’t be fixed. I do have symptoms of CRPS, but that diagnosis does not completely explain (for me, anyways, HA) why the pain from the original injury has not decreased and physical therapy made the pain spread, even though the range of motion has gotten better.

I did some research and read about some separate conditions that explain all of my pain, on orthopedic websites. In my ankle, it could be ankle impingement, or an ankle syndesmosis injury. I’m pretty sure I have some problem with my peroneal tendon, which is part of but still kind of separate from the ankle. In my big toe joint, I think there’s problems with my sesamoid bones. In the ball and instep of my foot, it could be MTP synovitis, or Morton’s Neuroma. And, I’m relatively certain I’ve developed hammertoe in my pinky toe.

I got an appointment for Monday, and now I just have to keep the courage to say, “Hey, I did a few hours of research, Mr Doctor with a medical degree.” Although, in my last visit with him where he referred me to the pain clinic, he did say something like, “I’d be glad to be wrong, because then you’d be on a better track for treatment.”

I had two therapists chastise me for reading about foot conditions, like I was a hypochondriac, or I was going to give myself anxiety. I was like, I need to be informed! If my foot starts turning weird colours at home but not in the office visit, or if I think I’ve been misdiagnosed, I need to know what to tell my doctors so they understand how it’s acting. I am a scientist, not a fool.

Wait, scientists and fools aren’t mutually exclusive. Sometimes I am a fool. I am a fool for science! Hahahaha

I want to write more posts per week. I never realised how freakin’ therapeutic this could be.

Whatcha say?
